WHY BOTH FIELDS MATTER
One version family can contain several decisions.
BuildVersion identifies a system seed. It does not by itself prove a MisakaX release supports that seed.
23C5027fThe exact OS build identifier. It catches adjacent seeds and a version/build transcription mismatch.
The matching MisakaX or misaka26 release must explicitly cover that state. Build identity is not an outcome guarantee.

Where do I find the iOS build number on an iPhone?
Open Settings → General → About, then open the iOS Version row. Record the complete version and the parenthesized build identifier, such as iOS 26.1 (23B85). If the row initially shows only the version, tap it once to reveal the available detail.
Where do I find the iPadOS build number?
Use the same path on an iPad: Settings → General → About → iPadOS Version. Keep the iPadOS label with the ProductVersion and BuildVersion so an iPhone result is not assumed automatically.
What is the difference between ProductVersion and BuildVersion?
ProductVersion is the familiar system version, such as 26.1 or 26.2 beta 1. Apple device-management documentation calls the equivalent field OSVersion. BuildVersion is the exact software build identifier, such as 23B85 or 23C5027f. MisakaX compatibility decisions use both.
What does iOS build 23C5027f mean?
It identifies the first iOS/iPadOS 26.2 beta seed used at the public misaka26 compatibility ceiling. It is not the 26.2 final build and does not mean every feature will work. A build identifies the installed system state; the product release still supplies the compatibility claim.
Why is the beta number important if I have the build number?
Keep both because they catch transcription errors and make the report readable. Do not infer beta 1, beta 2 or final from a marketing number alone, and do not infer the beta seed by comparing build codes as ordinary numbers.
Can I check MisakaX compatibility with only the iOS version?
A broad stable range can sometimes be routed from the full version alone, but beta, RC, point-release and documentation-conflict boundaries need BuildVersion. If the checker asks for more precision, do not remove the build to force a result.
What if About shows only iOS 26.2 with no beta label?
Open the iOS Version row and copy the build shown with it. A generic 26.2 label cannot distinguish beta 1, later beta seeds, RC and final. For example, 23C5027f identifies beta 1; it must not be treated as the entire 26.2 line.
Can I find the software version from a Mac or Windows PC?
Yes. Apple documents Finder on current macOS, and Apple Devices or iTunes on Windows. Connect and trust the device, select it, then look under General or Summary. Computer app versions expose detail differently, so use the on-device About screen when the exact build is not visible.
What if tapping iOS Version still does not show the build?
Do not guess from the update screen or device model. Confirm the installed software through Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes, then return to About. If neither view exposes an exact build, report the version as incomplete and stop at an Unknown compatibility result instead of choosing a nearby seed.
Is Software Update the same as the About screen?
Software Update is useful for checking update availability, but About is the better reporting path because it identifies the currently installed system. Do not copy the version of an offered update that has not been installed.
Is the iOS build number private?
BuildVersion is a shared software identifier, not a unique device identifier. It is appropriate to include in a compatibility report. A full About screenshot can also expose serial number, IMEI, ICCID, EID, Wi-Fi address or other identifiers, so crop or redact it.
Is BuildVersion the same as the model number, firmware version or serial number?
No. BuildVersion identifies the installed operating-system build. Model identifies hardware, modem firmware belongs to the cellular subsystem, and serial/IMEI/UDID identify a particular device. None of those fields can replace BuildVersion.
Should I share my MobileGestalt file to prove the build?
No. A compatibility question needs the system family, ProductVersion, BuildVersion, device model, computer platform and app release. The MobileGestalt plist is device-specific and should not be posted as a public environment report.
Does restarting the iPhone change BuildVersion?
A normal reboot does not install a new OS build. An iOS/iPadOS update, beta update or supplemental system update can change the reported state, so re-open About after any update before applying or reporting a result.
Does removing a beta profile change the installed build?
Removing or disabling beta updates does not replace the system already installed. The BuildVersion changes only after another system build is installed. Keep reporting the current About value until that happens.
Can this website detect my iOS build automatically?
No. A normal website cannot read the installed iOS BuildVersion from your device. This page processes only the values you type, locally in the browser, and performs no USB scan, file upload or fingerprinting.
What should I enter in the MisakaX compatibility checker?
Choose iPhone or iPad, enter the full ProductVersion with beta or RC label, add BuildVersion, and select the computer platform you will actually use. Device model is useful for later feature diagnosis but does not replace any of those routing fields.
